Subangdaku fire destroys 2 storage facilities

TWO storage structures were destroyed in a fire that hit Sitio Nawanaw, Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City yesterday morning.

Yesterday’s fire was the second incident that struck Mandaue this month.

The Mandaue Fire Station (MFS) received the call for assistance at 9:45 a.m., which was raised to Task Force Alpha.

The firefighters arrived at the area at least three minutes after the call.

FO3 Socrates Jude Nacua Jr. said that sparks from welding works in an upholstery shop owned by Dioning Abrea reportedly caused the fire after these landed on materials for upholstery and on the nearby tires in the storage building of Square Cube Construction owned by Franklin Olair.

Damage to property was pegged at P150,000.

The fire was controlled at 10:17 a.m.

“We immediately controlled the fire and the wind was not that strong so the flames did not spread to the nearby residences,” said Nacua.

No one was reported injured by the fire.

Last Sept. 2, a fire broke out inside an ancestral house on S.B. Cabahug St. in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia that killed three members of a family.

They were Nestor Ouano, 59; Ma. Lyn Ouano-King, 49; and the latter’s 16-year-old daughter Crislyn.

Aida Ouano, 57, sister of Nestor and Ma. Lyn, survived after she was able to run outside the house.
