JONAS Sultan needs a knockout or a one-sided beatdown to guarantee a win against South African Makazole Tete in South Africa this Saturday dawn.
“He needs a knockout to secure a win, if not he’ll lose. If the fight is close, he’ll lose,” ALA Gym head coach Edito Villamor told Sun.Star Cebu.
Winning against a South African in his own backyard is close to impossible if it goes to the scorecards but Villamor believes that it’s doable.
“He needs to show the judges that he wants to win. You need to beat him up to convince the judges just in case it reaches the distance,” he said.
Sultan and his coach Robert Eturma left for South Africa via Hong Kong the other day.
“He had a good training camp. He has been training at a high altitude because Africa is I think three thousand above sea level. He has had good sparring , so there should be no problem. What’s important is he should have enough rest after the long travel and hopefully his body will adjust,” said Villamor.
The 24-year-old Sultan has been sparring with the likes of former world title challenger Rocky Fuentes, Lorenz Ladrada, Virgel Vitor, Jess Rhey Waminal and Kevin Jake Cataraja.
Sultan is facing Tete for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-Continental super flyweight belt at the Orient Theatre in East London.
