MAKATI CITY -- SunStar Davao reporter Ace June Rell Perez bagged Sinag: Sun Life's Financial Literacy Journalism Awards for Mindanao as Sun Life Financial Inc. recognized anew on Wednesday, December 14, at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel the vital role of the journalists in achieving its goal of enabling a financially literate and free country.
In its third year, Sun Life brings a bigger "Sinag: Sun Life’s Financial Literacy Journalism Awards," as also awarded were digital influencers and student writers for their efforts in raising awareness about financial literacy in the Philippines.
Other winners include Carlo Lorenziana (The Freeman) for Visayas and Daxim Lucas (Phil. Daily Inquirer) for Luzon. Each winner received P35,000 cash, plus a Sun Life Prosperity Fund starter fund worth P5,000 and a trophy.
"We hope you will never get tired in helping Filipinos be well-informed and increase their financial literacy. This is an advocacy that needs to be consistently pursued, because no matter what happens, Juan dela Cruz (Filipinos) will always need to understand the best way he can manage his money and make it grow,"
Riza Mantaring, Sun Life President and CEO said in her opening speech Wednesday, December 14. She added that stories on financial literacy helps Filipinos to have a deeper understanding of money management and inspires people pursue financial freedom. Bigger and Brighter For this year, Sun Life launched the Sinang Student Summit wherein participants were asked to write essays on financial literacy.
Emmalyn Reyes of Far Eastern University; Franchesca Pauline Cantos of Miriam College; and Jennie De Araw, Westmead International School were named the first Sinag Awards' student edition winners.
For the Digital awards category are Fitx Gerard Villafuerte (fitzvillafuerte.com) as second runner up, Lace Llanora (mommylace.com) as first runner up and May Palacpac (fullyhousewifed.com) as the winner.
Sunlife's Sinag Awards was launched last 2014.
