Surface water to be Davao water district’s main source

ONCE the P10-million bulk water project intended to get water from Tamugan River is in place, the Davao City Water District (DCWD) production wells that extract water underground will still be used but only after some rehabilitation and only as an alternative source.

Speaking during the press conference on Friday, December 23, DCWD spokesperson Bernard Delima said the production wells, which has been the main source of water in the whole city will be on a "standby mode" once the water bulk project is operational by around 2019.

He added the wells will be utilized when there is a need for maintenance with the Tamugan water equipment of the Apo Agua Infrastructura Inc. (AAII).

To date, there are 58 production wells that supply water in the city. Of this figure, 37 are in the Dumoy area.

Delima remained optimistic that they will be able to complete the pipe-laying ahead of the AAII, which is now in the process of getting the necessary permit before they could start with the construction.

"Our initial fear is the bulk water (project) will finish ahead of us but now we can say to Apo Agua that we will wait for you because we will be able to complete all our 2 billion projects in time before the bulk water comes in," he said.
