Suspected private armed group member nabbed in Asturias

AN ALLEGED member of an armed group led by a former communist leader was caught on Thursday afternoon, December 7, in Barangay Bago, Asturias, Cebu.

Cresencio S. Barcenal, 41, was captured by the joint personnel of Tuburan Police Station, Asturias Police Station and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 based on the warrant of arrest issued by Toledo City Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Hermes Montero.

Barcenal is allegedly a part of the group formed by Eduardo Sacamay, who was New People's Army (NPA) regional commander in Cebu in 1980 to 1990S, that murdered a political organizer in Tuburan last 2016 elections.

His other alleged cohorts, former NPA rebel Reneboy Dictahan and Melchor Doñoso, were caught on November 17, 2017.

Tuburan Police Chief Marlu Conag, in a press release, stated that the Sacamay Group had "established itself as a menacing private armed group in northern Cebu, responsible for the liquidation of persons in recent years."

Barcenal's case is a non-bailable offense. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
