JOY TABAL and Kenyan Isaac Simat captured the 15K titles f the Gaisano Country Mall 20th Anniversary Run yesterday at the Gaisano Country Mall.
Tabal, who won her fourth straight title in four weeks, crossed the finish line in
59:35, and was the lone female runner to finish in under an hour. Mereeis Ramirez got second place in 1:08:36, while Joeyry Lee got third place in 1:09:26.
Tabal said she used the race as her tune-up for next week’s 16.8 King of the Road race in Malaysia.
Although Tabal topped the race, she felt that it was not enough to challenge for the 16.8 Adidas KOTR title on Oct. 20.
The 16.8 Adidas KOTR started in 2011 and has five qualifying races in the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.
In 2011, Tabal won the title but in 2012, she failed to represent the country when Mary Grace Delos Santos topped the 2012 Philippines Adidas KOTR qualifying race. Delos Santos managed to win the title for the country in the 2012 KOTR in Singapore.
u201cI feel a bit pressured to win this year’s title next week and retain the Philippines’ dominance in this race, but I will give my best in this race,” said Tabal.
Meanwhile, Kenyan runners swept the top three spots in the men’s 15K category. Simat took the title in 51:04, beating Abraham Missos (52:10) and Douglas Mwiti (54:14).
In the 10K, the Andrin sisters secured the top two spots with Lovely winning the title in 44:46, 58 seconds ahead of sister Jhean. Sarah Lee Quizon got third place in 45:53. ISL
