Tan: Spiritual freedom in Christ is not cheap

“So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” – Galatians 5:1

THE Lord paid a high price to set us free. He died a violent, painfully violent and totally undeserved death on the cross for our sins. By his violent death at Calvary, I sincerely hope you and I realize that sin and living a lifestyle of sin is one really big deal to God.

Sin cannot be cheaply swiped off with words. Christ died to set us free! Someone paid the consequence of sin with a high price! A truly repentant sinner is not only sorry for his sins but recognizes the fact that he cannot demand anything. God granted forgiveness on the basis of His love and grace…not on our demand to be treated as heroes.

Due to our utter sinfulness, we do not even deserve a sigh of relief…how much more honor? Is it too much for us to recognize that despite all that we have learned from this world, all which we have done to gain fame, wealth, power…the steps we took to achieve what we planned; the people we hurt on the way to financial stability; all the times we set God’s word aside and replaced them with the tenets of modern-day living, despite all these…the grace of God brought undeserved forgiveness, unconditional love, and acceptance by faith in Christ.

Christ by His death brought those who believe in Him spiritual freedom and forgiveness. Free from condemnation, free to be the person God wants us to be. Free from traditionalism. Know the source of your spiritual freedom, and realize how precious the price for it is, so we can truly live free!

Such freedom is not forced on anyone. The conviction of God works powerfully yet so gently that the offer of freedom and forgiveness is not forced on any one…it is offered. What grace! Grace to those who do not deserve it and grace again to grant space for the death-deserving sinner to make up his mind and respond in an attitude of brokenness and repentance.

Spiritual freedom comes along with the exercise of free choice—God's most risky gift. While this is given free, we must take all the pains to properly utilize this aspect of freedom more for the benefit of others rather than for ourselves…exercising the freedom to choose to preserve the divine image of God in man.

When you look back or look deep into yourself…as you gaze upon the offer of freedom and forgiveness at the cross, do not forget that it is not just cheap words of a politician—a high price was paid! The true son of God, Jesus Christ, died to set us free. No other person can offer such forgiveness and freedom other than this!

My sincere prayer is that you take it and truly be forgiven and free!

Thanks for reading, I always write from my heart.
