Tanjay City, Pamplona bag ‘Buglasan Lutong Garbo’ top prizes

THE Rootcrops-Buco Mucho dessert recipe of Tanjay City and Pamplona’s Kamias Cooler drink both won in this year’s food fest "Buglasan Lutong Garbo" that featured healthy desserts and drinks on October 1 at Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), Dumaguete City.

Along the dessert category, Sta. Catalina’s Pichi-Pichi got second place, and Squash Patty Honey-Bugnay Glaze of the municipality of Siaton placed third.

For drinks, Valencia’s Hamog Valenciana and Organic Juice of Sta. Catalina placed second and third winners, respectively.

This year’s culinary competition among local government units used locally grown ingredients and prepared with a variation or tweak that focuses on healthy desserts and drinks.

Cheryle Rosales, first prize winner, presented her dessert with tasty sweet and creative way of cooking with mixed root crops, coco milk, and eggs in a caramel.

Rosales received a cash prize of P6,000 and a trophy from Lutong Garbo Committee led by chairperson Sylvia Uy.

Lilibeth Cabalida of St. Catalina and Genesis Gabriel Arsulo of Siaton also received cash of P4,000 and P3,000 and trophies, respectively.

Winners for drinks are: Carlito Calda, got P4,000 as first prize winner; Eeeuttiquio Tenorio Jr. of Valencia got P3,000 as second placer; and Lilibeth Cabalida got P2,500 for placing third.

The Lutong Grbo banners the theme "Discovering, Developing and Promoting Negros Oriental Culinary Heritage."

The food competition winners were proclaimed by board of judges composed of local culinary experts Gabriel Antonio del Prado of Gabby's Bistro; Wilfreda Villalon, Home Economics Instructor and Teacher III; Chona Morales, instructor of Teamskills Schools for Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Inc.
