LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- A day for celebration is sought to honor women in this village.
In a resolution, Barangay Tawag is seeking a day to honor women dubbed as the “Barangay Tawang Women’s Day Commemoration.”
Set on March 8 every year, the day shall be known as the “Tawang Women's Day”, and through all women's association or organization shall conduct annual celebration of this memorable event.
“This day gives all women in Barangay Tawang a day to meet and mingle with each other, for the purpose of giving them time to unwind themselves through involvement in this tribute for them,” village chief Denver Gomeyac said.
The village resolution aims to actively contribute to uphold the rights of women and the belief in their worth and dignity as human beings.
Women shall be recognized as full and equal partners of men in development and nation building and men shall share equally with all forms of productive and reproductive activities.
Gomeyac said the village will pursue and implement gender responsive development support systems, taking into consideration women’s immediate economic survival with support for their efforts of empowerment and self-determination, and to adopt and implement measures to protect and promote their rights.
The village has recognized the efforts of other countries and areas to uphold women’s rights “holidays like International Women's Day help remind us all that women have the power and the ability to make positive change in the world for themselves, their families and for future generations to come; it is a day to both celebrate the women around us who do contribute to making positive change and to contemplate what you can contribute to help make positive change for women everywhere,” Gomeyac said.
During the local celebration there will be competitions on culinary as well as health activities for all women and a guest speaker to come to talk on women’s health issues as well as the organization of a “Woman Challenge Kickoff Event.”
