Tay Tung, CSA-Bacolod capture Nova U16 titles

BACOLOD Tay Tung High School and Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod emerged as champions in the Under 16 girls and boys division, respectively of the just-concluded 26th Negros Occidental Volleyball Association (Nova)-Negros Occidental Cultural and Sports Foundation Age-Group Volleyball Championship Tournament held in Silay City.

The Palarong Pambansa-bound Tay Tung Thunderbolts again ruled the 16 Under division dominating archrival Talisay City, Living Stone International School, and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.

Eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) Angel Ann Canino anchored the Thunderbolts in subduing Talisay City in the finals.

Living Stone settled for second runner-up and UNO-R finished third runner-up.

For the Under 16 boys, MVP awardee Charlie Jimenez led the Eaglets in surprising long-time age-group powerhouses St. Joseph School-La Salle, University of St. La Salle-IS and St. Theresita’s Academy, which finished as runners-up.

10 Under Girls

- Calvary School, champion

- Christian Academy of Bacolod, first runner-up

- St. John's Institute-A, second runner-up

Nova president Roger Banzuela said the age-group tournament served as an avenue to further develop the skills and talents of young volleyball players in the province as well as help in the talent identification of potential athletes fit for higher competitions. (HGD)
