Tay Tung volleybelles sweep Area 3, gear up for WVRAA

BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts, representing Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea), swept Area 3-Talisay City in three sets during Palarong Panalawigan secondary girls’ volleyball to win the title.

With their triumph at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center, Nopsscea secured the right to represent Negros Occidental in next year’s Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet (WVRAA) in Iloilo.

The Jose Montalbo-bankrolled team downed Area 3: 25-17, 25-16 and 25-20 to capture the gold medal.

Montalbo, Tay Tung’s vice president for sports, said that as they turn their focus on the regionals, the team need to work hard and try to find ways to play better against Iloilo, which is a Palarong Pambansa bronze medalist.

“It would be a tough task, but I’m confident that my players will be able to get through it. Their hardwork and exposure helped them a lot,” he said.

Gauging the level their players have reached since they initially met their Iloilo counterparts last summer, Montalbo said they have gone far beyond expectations.

“If we have some hesitation before in our players’ capabilities, now anybody can take their teammates’ shoes when performances are off,” he added.

Thunderbolts also swept Area 4 (La Carlota City) in the semifinals: 25-12 and 25-13.

The Thunderbolts continued their quest to further develop their talents as they see action in the Mayor Tinto Bascon Christmas Volleyball League 2017 Inter-High School Open Boys and Girls on December 16-18 in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

Teams seeing action are host-Himamaylan City, San Carlos City, towns of Binalbagan and Valladolid, Living Stones International School, and Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod for the boys’ division.

For the girls are host-Himamaylan City, Talisay City, Pontevedra, and archrivals Bacolod Tay Tung High School, St. John’s Institute, and Living Stones International School. (HGD)
