Teen killed, 1 injured in strafing

A FEMALE teenager died while her employer was seriously wounded after three unidentified men fired at the latter’s house in Sitio Upper Mamballo, Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental at 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

Killed was Elnica Arroz, 18, a Grade 11 student, who worked for Rene Saludares, 33, a motorcycle-for-hire (habal-habal) driver, who was wounded.

Senior Inspector Alfred de Leon, town police chief, said Saludares asked Arroz to give the motorcycle key to his cousin, who was about to go home, after they had a drinking session with friends.

When Arroz came out of the house, the assailants, who arrived on foot fired at them.

Saludares, who was about to sleep, went outside after hearing the gunfire. He was also hit. Saludares’s family, cousins, and friends were all unharmed.

The perpetrators escaped on foot.

Investigators recovered from the scene eight fired bullets and two slugs of M16 rifle.

De Leon said they are eyeing personal conflict as the motive.

He added that they already have identified persons of interest.
