Teener dies in fire

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man died in an early morning fire that hit his family’s residence at Eufemia Compound, Barangay Taculing in Bacolod City Wednesday, May 24.

The fatality was identified as Mark Jason Hontiveros.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Archie Españo, arson investigator of Bureau of Fire Protection-Bacolod, said Wednesday that the victim was sleeping in his room when the fire broke out at around 4:10 a.m.

The fire started from an overheated electric fan at the living room.

Hontiveros’s sister, Jenny Mae, told the investigator they woke up when they heard an explosion.

Españo said Jenny Mae, along with her mother, ran outside, but Mark Jason was left inside the house.

He added that the victim’s body was found at the dirty kitchen where he was apparently trapped.

Several fire trucks were dispatched and the blaze was put under control by 4:43 a.m.

Españo said the fire left an estimated damage of about P100,000.
