Tell it to Sun.Star: Homosexuality a disorder
ON the surface, it looks like one cannot make an argument against homosexual acts without using conservative religious beliefs.
Let me state from the outset that gays should have a place where they can have a role in society. In fact, most of them deserve sympathy and help for the ridicule that they’ve always had to endure.
With that said, we can’t confuse psychological disorders for diversity and homosexuality should be clearly classified as a disorder.
A psychological disorder is defined as a pattern that causes suffering or poor ability to function in ordinary life. And homosexuality fits that definition to a T.
From the standpoint of evolution, every species on this planet should be able to perform two things-- to survive and to reproduce. When you look at the statistics for AIDS in this country, a whopping 80 percent of that comes from men having sex with men. How can something that they consider as normal have this kind of effect?
When it comes to reproduction, it should be obvious that homosexuality is indeed a disorder because it hinders someone from having a child.
OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) is considered as a psychological disorder and the worst thing that can happen to a person with OCD is that he could waste a lot of time. Homosexuality, however, has far worse consequences. A homosexual person who engages in homosexual acts increases his chances of getting HIV.
As a result of his homosexuality, he feels attracted to a person of the same sex with whom he cannot have a biological child with. How can that not be considered a psychological disorder? But what causes homosexuality?
As for same-sex marriage, the Catholic Church should have the final say about who is qualified to marry. As far as the law is concerned, same-sex marriage should never be legalized. A lot of people will make the argument that there’s nothing wrong with same-sex marriage because nobody gets hurt. On the surface, it seems to be true but that argument gets shaky once you look at adoption.
Imagine what will happen to the children that they’ll adopt. Are these children supposed to think that it’s normal for their same-sex parents to engage in sex. An act which could increase their chances of HIV?
And what about those who argue that nature has several species that have homosexual tendencies? The populations of those homosexual animals are very low for a reason because homosexuality hinders their ability to bear children. One can also make the argument that some species have incestuous tendencies. Dogs in particular have children with their daughter, grand-daughters and great-grand daughters. Should we follow their example as well?
And if we allow same-sex marriage? Shouldn’t we allow incestuous marriages as well because they’re “not hurting anyone and they enjoy it?” The worst thing that can happen to an incestuous marriage is the possibility of bearing children that are not normal. The worst thing that can happen to a homosexual relationship on the other hand is HIV, AIDS and death.
We shouldn’t confuse psychological disorders for diversity nor should we celebrate it by allowing same-sex marriages that could have a disastrous impact on our society. Allowing same sex marriages will open up a can of worms that will burden the future generations of this planet.
We have to find ways to treat this disorder and remove the stigma associated with homosexuality. I’ve always been a fan of Pacquiao the boxer and hero. Unfortunately Pacquiao, like most religious fundamentalists used religion to make sweeping statements about gays.
Using religion to make comments about homosexuality usually stirs up unnecessary feelings of hostility but we shouldn’t forget that homosexuality needs to be treated not celebrated.--Benjamin Piranias
