Termination of Ched chair won’t affect status of BCC

BACOLOD City Councilor Renecito Novero said Wednesday the termination of Commission on Higher Education (Ched) chairperson Patricia Licuanan will not affect the accreditation application of the Bacolod City College (BCC).

“I don’t think that the termination of Licuanan will affect the accreditation of BCC, I see no relationship between that incident and the accreditation of the college, said Novero, chairperson of committee on education.

On Monday, Licuanan announced her resignation after receiving a call from Malacañang.

Novero said the vacancy of the position of Licuanan will be filled to continue the function of said office.

“There are appropriate officials in the Ched that will attend to our applications, and we are still exerting our efforts to comply with all the requirements,” he said.

He added that the BCC already complied with standards of Ched in terms of the minimum permanent employees of the BCC or at least seven regular employees, and its program is also updated.

Ched had earlier conducted an evaluation of the BCC for its accreditation, which includes inspection of the BCC building, status of the employees, and its programs.

“The Ched required us to comply with all the requirements to secure an accreditation so that BCC can provide free tuition this school year,” Novero said.

He said that several colleges and universities applying for accreditation from Ched are facing the same problems.

President Rodrigo Duterte had signed into law the bill that would provide free tuition for the state universities and colleges.

An accreditation from Ched is one of the requirements to avail of the free tuition.
