The poetry of the classics

THE classic, the sheer elegance of it, riddled with tales of old without hints of fading; it’s timeless, ageless and for keeps. These reasons make it worth revisiting.

Gladys Young, the designer behind the fine jewelry line Vero, gives a play on classics with her latest collection, Love Vintage, as seen during the brand’s third trunk show. The exclusive launch took place last year, Dec. 10 at Anzani Prime on the second level of The Tinder Box located along Archbishop Reyes Ave., Banilad, Cebu City.

The collection presents an amalgamation of precious metals 14k gold and sterling silver with a mix of gemstones, fresh water pearls and south sea pearls as well as black, white, pink and champagne diamonds.

“It’s like a piece of nostalgia, bringing everyone back to the past, to the classics which I’ve never really explored on much. But I tweaked it a bit and I made it a little bit more up-to-date,” Gladys said. “It’s vintage but it has a spike; it has a kick.”

Love Vintage was inspired from the 1970s and back yet still portrays that signature expression of the Vero brand. While its pieces contain a touch of classic to it, each intricately detailed design evokes a one-of-a-kind artful conception, brimming with vibrancy and distinction.

“I don’t like conformity. I always take a detour because that’s the look I like. I like the classics but I want a twist,” she expressed. “I’ve developed an attachment to every piece because first and foremost, it’s very personal. Personal in the sense that I make everything from scratch.”

More than pieces of jewelry, the collection evokes glimmering timeless tales of elegance and sentimentality. The Vero showroom is located at Cebu City Marriott Hotel.
