Three leader-inmates found positive for drugs isolated

AFTER they were tested positive for illegal drug use, the three dormitory leader-inmates of Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) in Bago City were isolated from other inmates.

The three were among the 26 inmates, who underwent a surprise drug test at the district jail on Monday.

Chief Inspector Ruth Estales, jail warden of NODJ, said the three inmates will be subjected to disciplinary hearing to give them due process.

As dormitory leader-inmates, the three should have been good examples to their other inmates, she said.

Estales said the good conduct being granted by the jail warden to them will also be suspended as part of their sanction.

Following the incident, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) enforced a strict conduct of inspection among the visitors to avoid the possible entry of contrabands.

It has been suggested that a regular random drug test will be conducted among the inmates for monitoring.
