THE weather bureau warned residents in Cebu against heavy rains, strong wind, lightning and possible flashflood, as it issued 1:22 p.m. Wednesday a thunderstorm advisory over Cebu City, Talisay City, Minglanilla and nearby areas.
Jomar Eclarino, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)-Mactan weather specialist, said the thunderstorm may persist for one to two hours.
Eclarino added there is a possibility that heavy rains may continue this evening and a possible thunderstorm advisory may be issued.
Pagasa earlier forecast cloudy skies with light to moderate rains in most parts of Mindanao brought by the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting southern Mindanao.
It said the ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Zamboanga Peninsula, South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City (Soccsksargen), as well as the provinces of Maguindanao, Davao Del Sur and Davao Occidental.
The ITCZ, which is the thick clouds coming from the south of Asia, is considered a breeding ground for low pressure areas or potential cyclones. (Nheru Veraflor/With PNA/Sunnex)
