Top US military official visits Wesmincom

THE Marine Forces in the Pacific (MARFORPAC) have vowed to work with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in terms of enhancing technical capability and sharing of skills through training.

This assurance was made by Lieutenant General David Berger, MARFORPAC commander, who paid courtesy visit on Sunday to Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez Jr., Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) chief.

Berger was accompanies by some of the top staff officers from the MARFORPAC during his visit at Camp Navarro that houses the Wesmincom headquarters in this city.

Captain Jo-ann Petinglay, Wesmincom information officer, said Berger lauded Galvez for his commendable leadership when he was briefed of the accomplishments of Wesmincom.

Petinglay said Berger specified the commendable successful campaign of Wesmincom against the Daesh-inspired Maute terror group in Marawi City.

She said the two top officials discussed some successful tactics and innovations practiced and applied during the campaign in Marawi.

Further discussed were the assessment of the support extended by the US troops in the command and the possible ways to broaden efforts between the Wesmincom and American troops.

“It is important that we work closely with your troops and augment your capability in some aspects as we have also worked with other environments threatened by terrorism all over the world,” Petinglay quoted Berger to have told Galvez.

“We always welcome all kinds of support and help extended especially in training and technical capability. As long as it is for the betterment of our soldiers and their skills, it is a welcome news,” Galvez said in response to Berger’s statement. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
