Tourism office to bring Mindanao Tapestry Show to Germany

THE Department of Tourism (DOT) plans to bring the Mindanao Tapestry Show of Miss Universe 2016 to the International Travel Trade Show in Internationale Tourismus Borse (ITB) Berlin, Germany on March 8 to 12.

This is disclosed by Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo during a press conference at Seda-Abreeza Hotel, Davao City Friday, February 3.

Teo said Paula Shugart, one of the organizers of Miss Universe, was very much pleased with the Mindanao Tapestry Show held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang last January 19. The organizers, Teo said, considered the Davao-event as the best ancillary event of the Philippine Miss Universe hosting.

Following the successful event, Teo shared the plan to bring the show to Berlin.

The ITB, as stated in the official website of Berlin, welcomes around 10,000 exhibitors from 180 countries annually. The event is touted as the “center of attraction for the tourism industry and influences travel experiences worldwide.”

The Mindanao Tapestry Show was joined by Mindanaoan fashion designers who incorporated the geometric styles and orientations inspired by Mindanaoan fabric into their designs. The tourism office of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) also donated three different fabrics to be used for the fashion show: Inaul from Maguindanao, Landak from Marawi and Lanao del Sur, and Pis Syabit of Sulu.

DOT Davao Regional Director Roberto Alabado III said the tapestry show did not only showcase the beauty of Davao City, but it also promoted to the foreign and local visitors the different regions in Mindanao through the beauty of their fabric. (JPA)
