Transport strike looms in Bacolod

THE United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (Undoc) is planning to hold a transport strike on the heels of continuous increase in the prices of petroleum products.

Diego Malacad, secretary-general of Undoc, said they are eyeing to stage a protest on the second week of October.

“We will consult other sectors especially the schools that will be affected by the transport strike,” Malacad said.

Aside from the high prices of petroleum products, the drivers and operators will also protest the Transport Modernization Program which will phaseout old public utility jeepneys.

Malacad said another price increase will be imposed by the oil companies this week for diesel and kerosene which will deeply hurt the drivers and operators.

He added that they will finalize their plans during a meeting in the coming days.

Malacad said they did not join the transport strike of Pinag-Isang Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) Monday because they lacked time to prepare.
