TRB probes collapse of skyway beam

THE Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) said Wednesday that it will investigate the possible lapses committed by DM Consunji Inc. after the coping beam at the construction site of the Skyway Stage 3 project along Osmena Highway in Makati City collapsed on Tuesday.

"We have to look into the construction methodology nila dahil kasi so far nung bibistahan mo lang wala namang pagkakamali, ewan lang natin kung during yung ina-assemble nila yung rebars doon eh meron ba silang hindi nasunod na protocol," TRB spokesperson Albert Suansing said.

"Kasi inihahanda na sa pagbubuhos yun actually eh, yung buhos, meaning lalagyan na ng semento, may porma na. So bakit humilig yung rebars habang pineprepare nila," he added.

The incident on Tuesday morning caused heavy traffic in the area, injury to five workers, and damaged two private vehicles.

Suansing said they have instructed the concessionaire, Citra Central Expressway Corporation (CCEC) of San Miguel Corporation to submit an incident report and conduct an investigation on the matter particularly if there was a safety officer in the area during the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, DMCI vice president for operations Dwight Taala said they will conduct an in-depth investigation to identify possible lapses and to avoid a similar incident in the future.

"Ina-assure naman namin yung public na once na matukoy yung failure dito, kung saan man portion ng ating support system, ay i-improve natin para maiwasan na natin ang pagkaulit nitong pangyayari ito," he said.

"Gusto naming makita kung saan nagkaroon ng failure para ma-address. Gusto naming malaman kung bakit nagkaroon tayo ng ganitong failure," he added.

Taala said they have already made arrangements with the owners of the damaged vehicles and ensure they will shoulder the costs of the repair. (SunStar Philippines)
