Tribute given to Pampanga’s oldest chicharon maker

SAN FERNANDO CITY -- SM City San Fernando Downtown on Monday paid tribute to one of the oldest chicharon makers in the province by featuring its product in the last leg of this year’s Flavor Fusion.

Chicharon by Galan’s, a delectable deep-fried pork skin dish famous from Guagua town, was showcased by SM City San Fernando Downtown as part of the three-part gastronomic adventure featuring Kapampangan dishes featured by the mall management.

A four feet by three feet bucket filled with six kilos of chicharon made by the descendants of expert butcher and meat vendor Anselmo Galan was presented and given away to mall goers at the mall’s fourth level.

According to SM City San Fernando Downtown Mall Manager Lana Erroba, this’s year’s Flavor Fusion aims to showcase the famous and traditional Kapampangan cuisine including Chicharon.

“We all know that Pampanga is recognized as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines and we are privileged to enjoin all culinary experts, including the Galans, in this one delicious gastronomic adventure,” Erroba said.

She added that the event also aims to pay tribute to Apung Anselmo who is recognized as the one of the first chicharon makers in the province and owner of the 49-year old Chicharon by Galan’s.

Erroba said that the series of Flavor Fusion events held at three SM City malls in the province only manifested that Pampanga is indeed the Culinary Capital of the country.
