Tricycle driver ‘threatens’ diplomat

A DIPLOMAT was allegedly threatened by a tricycle driver after the latter hit his sports utility vehicle along the highway of Barangay 4, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Sunday.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, city police chief, withheld the name of the foreigner-victim and his nationality upon his request.

Santos said the victim was traveling with another diplomat to Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at 6:30 p.m. when a tricycle driven by an unidentified man hit their vehicle.

The victim disembarked and confronted the tricycle driver, but the latter tried to escape.

The suspect took an alleged .45 caliber pistol from his tricycle and threatened the victim.

Due to fear, the victim did not pursue a conversation with the suspect, thus the latter was able to escape.

Santos said the suspect was located the following day, but denied the accusation of the foreigner.

The police chief said the suspect cannot be arrested because the apprehension was not covered anymore by a hot pursuit or follow-up operation.

The foreigners already left the province.
