Troops intercept lumber shipment in Zamboanga del Norte

JOINT police and military operatives have arrested eight people as they intercepted a watercraft loaded with illegally cut lumber in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported on Monday, September 4.

The police said the shipment of illegally cut lumber was intercepted around 2 p.m., Sunday, September 3, at the shore of Piacan village, Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte.

The police said the troops were on security patrol when they chanced upon a twin engine motorboat locally as Jungkong loaded with some 2,000 board feet of lumber.

The police identified the arrested crew of the motorboat as the following: Kamlon Aldain, 58, Warlito Minosa, 20, Ramil Pangiliran, 50, Radz Salim, 20, Jul Alih, 21, Albaser Ahiyani, 21, Omar Hamja, 35, and Asan Khadsmir, 28.

The crew members and the intercepted lumbers were placed under the custody of the police in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte for proper disposition, the police said. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
