A DUMP truck driver who bumped two scavengers at Barangay Felisa dump site is facing charges after one of the victims died at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital Thursday morning.
Inspector Roger Ong, head of Traffic Management Unit (TMU), said on Sunday the family of Juan Guinabo, 67, is awaiting assistance from the management of the dump truck firm.
Investigation showed that around 1:45 a.m. Thursday, while Ronald Laxamana, 25, of Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, was driving the Fuso dump truck at the Barangay Felisa dump site, he hit Laxamana and his companion Alberto Anuales.
Ong said the victim’s family decided that if they fail to reach a settlement with the firm, they will file charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and physical injury against the driver.
Guinabo’s niece, Sharmine, said the personnel of garbage hauler Enviroking Corp. also offered them assistance, however, she said the amount is not enough to support the family of his uncle.
She said they asked only the management to help in the burial expenses of his uncle.
Sharmine disclosed that her uncle was collecting garbage at the dump site to support his family. They advised him not to go in the area, she said, but he insisted because his family needs his support.
Laxamana, who is detained at the lock up cell of Police Station 6, said it was not his intention to hurt the victims. He said when he was about to dump the garbage, he did not notice the two victims standing behind the dump truck.
Meanwhile, Jose Rey Tizon, liaison officer of Benson truck operator, said they were hired by Enviroking Corp. for the collection of garbage in the city.
He said the dump truck owner is willing to reach a settlement with the family of the victim in order so that the driver will be released. (MAP)
