Tuburan village official nabbed in drug raid

A VILLAGE official linked to the drug trade was caught in a raid for allegedly keeping unlicensed firearms and illegal drugs in Barangay Poblacion 5, Tuburan, around 7:05 a.m. Thursday, September 21.

Poblacion 5 barangay councilor Maurice Calida Perales was caught by the joint team of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Central Visayas-Cebu North Province and Tuburan Police Station operatives.

Tuburan Police Chief Marlu Conag said they received reports that Perales is a drug user who also sells illegal drugs. The suspect, though, denied the allegations.

Perales yielded a .38 revolver without a serial number, four bullets, a medium pack of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu), and three small packs of shabu.

He will be charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

At 6:40 a.m. Thursday, Perales's fellow, Poblacion 5 barangay councilor Emilio Maxilom Castro Jr., surrendered his unlicensed .22 revolver with bullets to Conag. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
