Turning a hobby into a business

FIRST-TIME mother, 26-year-old Alyssa Jen Francinilla Luayon understood how big a responsibility she would face after giving birth to now three-year-old Victoria Elyze. Like any excited mom, Luayon wanted to be with her daughter during her growing years.

Blessed with having a mom who taught her how to bake when she was younger, Luayon made the realization of turning her hobby into business.

“I was thinking of a way to have an extra income and I thought, having a home based food business would be a good one,” she said.

Although she came from a family who practiced a different field as both of her parents are engineers, Luayon who was clearly inexperienced at first in dwelling to business, tried her luck in selling banana crumble muffins online.

“I think I'm doing well as a mother and because I love seeing how my daughter is growing up. That is why I feel blessed din that I found a way to be a full-time mom and still earn a little,” she shared.

Her mass communication degree enabled her though to advertise her products well as more customers are driven to her Facebook page, Lyzerts Confections, because of the wonderfully photographed mini cakes and cupcakes.

Some of her products are sold in Habi at Kape, Abreeza Mall.

Doing business and taking care of her growing daughter may be a challenge but Luayon said it is all worth it.

“I don’t want to lose sight on all of my daughter’s firsts, it keeps me going,” she said.

Time management has also played most of the part in becoming both a mother and an entrepreneur.

Just give her more years and she will have a store of her own to display her baked goods. This, as she say, is only a tick off her bucket list and she is on her way to check some more.
