Twister hits farming village in Zamboanga

SIX houses made of light materials were totally destroyed while five others were partially damaged by a twister in a remote farming village of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Tuesday, November 29.

Zamboanga del Sur Police Director Sofronio Ecaldre said the incident occurred around 5 p.m. Monday at Purok 4 in the village of Upper Tiparak, Tambulig town.

Ecaldre said there was no casualty except for the destruction of the houses when the twister, locally known as ipo-ipo, triggered by inclement weather, hit the farming village.

He said the police in Tambulig town immediately coordinated with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) for the conduct of relief operations.

He added the MDRRMO has yet to ascertain the total cost of damage brought about by the twister. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
