TWO individuals were confirmed dead following a vehicular accident involving a bus at the Poyopoyo, Taloy Sur-Tuba Benguet area at Marcos highway.
Initial reports coming from the Tuba Municipal Police Station reveal the incident happened past 1 p.m., Monday, January 22, when a Victory Bus coming from Metro Manila was speeding up to Baguio City suddenly lost control and eventually hit an electrical post of the Benguet Electric Cooperative.
The strong impact resulted in the death of the bus conductor Joseph Raine Messina from Balintawak, Quezon City, and Melba Suarez of Buhat, Malabon City who were identified through their belongings.
The 26 passengers of the bus were sent to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for treatment, while the total number of the ill-fated bus is said to be 35.
The said accident cost the power outage of at least 25 percent of the Benguet Electric Cooperative's member consumers.
Beneco Personnel Health and Safety Officer Jason Wayet said "The affected portion is considered as a main feeder line or backbone of our system which serves Tuba and also affects the portion of the consumers of the La Union Electric Cooperative or Luelco.”
"We would like to assure our member consumers of our immediate action to restore power once the bus have been removed from the area of accident for us to do the necessary replacement of the electrical post," Wayet added.
