UK-based Dangcal backs Ballpals ‘Baby James Cup’

SPORTING buddies Jamewill “Baby James” Abucejo and Allen Dangcal extend good luck wishes to the championship games of the 2017 Ballpals “Baby James Cup” Fiesta Conference Inter-Color basketball tournament on Saturday, September 30, in Barangay 24 covered court, Cagayan de Oro City.

“Ginhawa lang gyod nga naa pud unta mi diha pero padayon gihapon atong suporta sa Ballpals family (We wish to be there but our support with Ballpals family continues),” said the immigrant card holder Abucejo, whose family is now based in Houston, United States of America.

The former Liceo de Cagayan standout Abucejo, who manned the club for five years as president before turning the baton to Stev Panaz Salgados in 2016, had just sent P10,000 cash for the prizes of the Baby James Cup.

“Lipay na `mi dire nga makita sa Facebook ang kabibo sa atong basketball sa Cagayan de Oro (We’re happy to see how lively basketball is in Cagayan de Oro on Facebook),” added Abucejo via social media conversation.

After the final games on Saturday, October 7, the Ballpals Inter-Color’s Christmas League will unfold tentatively set to open in the last week of October at same venue.

Abucejo said his good friend, Allen Dangcal — older brother of Cagayan de Oro’s winningest tertiary coach Rey-Kris Dangcal of Southern Philippine College — also pledged support to the Baby James Cup.

“Magpadala sab akong bro idol para sa mga medals dugang pabibo sa Ballpals tourney (He will also send money for the medals as support to the tourney). He’s now in the United Kingdom but Allen’s heart will always go to the development of Cagayan de Oro sports,” Abucejo said of the older Dangcal.

The Baby James Cup will be concluded with the unbeaten R-ACE Lao Warriors and Decon-WingMark Green Archers disputing the 40-up crown at 2 p.m., followed by the titular bout between Team Gustilo and Team Sumanga for the 39 and below title.

Taking the rugged court first at 1 p.m. are Team Galanida against Team Madrigal in the battle for third place in 39-below division.

Already, Pims Dad’z Gunners defeated Romuls dribblers, some weeks ago, for the 40-up level’s third-place honor.
