ULTRON Extra and Ultron Touring staved off elimination when they upset their higher ranked opponents in the 36 and above Fil-Sino Inter-Color Petron Cup at Tay Tung Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.
Ultron Extra escaped top seed Ultron Race, 80-78 while Ultron Touring defeated Sprint 4t Rider, 67-63.
Ultron Extra protecting a 67-49 lead at the start of the fourth quarter, saw their lead fizzled as Rinen Miag-ao was unstoppable in the lowpost with 12 points and forced the fouling out of main slotman Ultron Extra defender Brian Tan. Danny Boy Uy added eight points and Ralph Richard Tan knocked down two triples.
But Roger Montalbo made two free throws and followed this up with a timely swipe that led to the fouling of Efraim Valencia who made one of two freebies sealing the win for Ultron Extra even as Ultron Race Danny Boy Uy made a field goal as time expired for the final score.
In the nightcap, Glin Ortaliz scored eight points and Mark Cueva added five points to give Ultron Touring a 19-10 decisive advantage.
Ultron Touring surrendered the next two quarters as Sprint 4t Rider cut the gap 51-47 as Charlton Ong scored nine points with teammates Chris Lim and Noriel Bermudez tallying eight points apiece.
Ultron Touring took advantage of a poor start by Sprint 4t Rider to push the lead to nine points behind the combined output of Harry Siendo and Julius Teruel.
Sprint 4t Rider led by Charlton Ong and Michael Ang cut the deficit to three pts., but Siendo scored on a three-point play and Teruel scored on a twinner for a comfortable seven-point lead with 15 seconds left. Sprint 4t Rider Johnnyson Yu knocked down a triple for the final score. (PR)
