Unscheduled brownouts hit portions of Bacolod

AN ALOMOST six-hour unscheduled power interruption, which started around 2 a.m., was experienced by residents of Barangay 35 in Bacolod City Friday, May 5.

A secondary wire in the barangay camedown causing power outage, said Ma. Louisa Parroco, head of Cooperative Promotions Section of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco).

The barangay is covered by the Reclamation Feeder 3 which also provides electricity to areas along Araneta St. (Rodriguez Avenue-Magsaysay), Grand Regal Hotel, Visayan Daily Star, DYRL, Rosario St. (Yulo to San Juan), Yulo’s Park, San Juan Street (Rosario St. to San Sebastian), and ETCS.

At around 7:30 p.m. on the same day, a power interruption hit Barangay 1.

Ceneco reported the same cause of the brownout. As of 9 p.m., personnel of the power distribution utility were still conducting restoration operations.

Parroco said “octopus” electrical connections, old lines and illegal connections or “jumpers” normally cause damage to the secondary wire.

“Extreme heat may also damage electric wires resulting to emergency interruptions,” she said, adding that a 24-hour emergency team is on standby to immediately respond to affected areas.

Ceneco urged consumers to immediately report such incidents through hotline numbers 709-1257 and 709-1257.
