THERE'S so much to look forward to as the Santacruzan season rolls by every year. As a background, this religious and cultural feast commemorates the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena centuries ago. As history unfolds, the feast has evolved into a more elaborate celebration.
The Quota Club of Cebu has undertaken, (as they have for the last 25 years), the herculean task of organizing the various “reinas,” “prinsesitas” and “principes” into a colorful procession from the church to the coronation venue. This year, the Activity Center in Ayala Center Cebu was chosen as the place.
A warm welcome was afforded by the club members to the guests of honor, notably former Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 7 director Patria “Dawnie” Roa and Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Ma. Teresa Chan. In fact, the DOT 7 has even institutionalized this annual feast as a singular tourist attraction in Cebu!
This year’s Reina Emperatriz was the regal businesswoman, Aida Patana, while the youthful and stunning Reina Elena was Happy Melendres, who marched in with His Royal Highness, the Emperador Constantino, role-played by cute Malcolm Quisumbing. There was another beauty in the person of the Reina del Santacruzan, Hilary Joy F. Manansala.
After the most-awaited coronation, the colorfully-clad princes and princesses took a bow following a “rigodon” of sorts. We also took note of the attractive younger “sagalas,” the Reina de las Flores and Reina de los Angeles, who danced that waltz ever so gracefully!
Last but not the least, we would like to acknowledge ageless and energetic Quotarians (ladies of Quota), for their never ending support to the hearing-impaired children of the city, for whom funds raised from this laudable project, will go. Consuelo M. Garcia, director, (2014-2015) – Region 19 of Quota International Inc.; Quota International of Cebu president, Nieves Maria Fuentes; and the most hardworking of all, vice president Myrna D. Quisumbing, overall chairman of the 2015 Santacruzan, who deserves a crown herself!
Congrats all! Same time next year, Quotarians?
