UV grabs NBTC nat'l title

THE B-Meg Experts Cebu-backed University of the Visayas annexed the provincial crown of the Nokia-National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) D-League National Finals at the San Juan Gym yesterday.

The Cebuanos defeated Smart-Olongapo, 75-66, in the championship match in the tournament participated by the champions from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, backed by Nokia Philippines and TAO Corp.

Aside from the Smart-Olongapo Volunteers, the Trace College Laguna were the other finalists from Luzon, while Smart-Cagayan de Oro was the qualifier from Mindanao.

Scorers

Visayas Mythical team member Gerald Legarde and Mark Linao were the top scorers in the B-Meg Experts campaign for the title, as they scored 11 points each. The Baby Lancers brought home the national trophy.

Lomell Loyola, the MVP in the North Luzon regional finals, was the lone Volunteer to score in double digits with 12 markers.

James Regalado of the B-Meg Cebu-UV squad was named tournament MVP, while regional finals MVP Edcor Marata was included in the Mythical Team selection.

NCR results

As of press time, the results of the NCR Championships were not yet available.

The NCR crown was contested by B-MEG Integra Manila, Smart Manila, Magnolia Chocolait-ParaƱaque and Xavier San Juan.

Meanwhile, while UV will come home with the national title, Cebu City's representative University of San Carlos-South Campus will travel to Manila today for the Batang-PBA National Finals.

USC-South Baby Warriors will rely on its big three-Scott Aying, John Galinato and Mark Berame.
