VANTAGE took home the Men’s crown of the 1st Mayor’s Invitational Football Tournament in a dramatic 2-1 finish against Samba FC last Saturday night at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
Samba FC showed impressive team football in the first half. After a series of exchanges with Vantage, Samba FC finally found the back of the net with a goal by Onwuchekwa Hanacher in the 30th minute of the match.
The tides changed in the second half as Vantage pressed on the action. After a series of attempts, Richard Cañedo broke away from the Samba FC defense and found himself in a perfect position for a strike just inside the box for the equalizer in the 59th minute.
Just a minute later, Cañedo set a up the go-ahead goal for Ruffy Llorente. While falling down Cañedo managed to pass to a trailing Llorente, who launched a perfect strike that bounced off a defender and into the goal.
