Vets castrate 112 dogs in Kabankalan
THE Kabankalan City Veterinary Office through the support of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) and Department of Agriculture- Negros Island Region (DA-NIR) castrated 112 dogs in the said city on Thursday.
Dr. Ryan Janoya, head of the PVO Animal Health and Meat Inspection Services Division, yesterday said the neutering and spaying operations is part of the rabies control and prevention initiatives under the dog population control program.
Janoya said the massive castration operation is also in line with the celebration of the World Rabies Day on September 28.
A similar activity will also be conducted in other municipalities and cities to be spearheaded by their respective local governments.
“By controlling dog population in the province, we can also lessen dog bites and rabies death cases especially those caused by stray dogs,” Janoya said.
PVO records showed that this year, there is already one confirmed case of rabies death in Sagay City. Another reported case was in Ilog town, but still being verified.
In terms of dog bites, reports submitted by the Provincial Health office to PVO showed 3, 911 cases in the province, covering only the first quarter of the year.
