Vice Ganda hits ‘no cross-dresser policy’ at Taguig club

VICE Ganda has threatened to take back his investment in a high-end night club in Taguig City after a transgender was recently denied entry for allegedly violating its “no cross dresser policy."

Last June 20, fashion designer Veejay Floresca went to the exclusive Valkyrie Nightclub to attend a friend’s birthday party but bouncers blocked her way as she appeared to have violated the dress code policy by cross dressing.

The designer showed her California State ID that pointed out her female name and gender but the bouncer replied, “Lalaki pa din ‘yan (That’s still a man)."

Vice Ganda, who is one of the minority stockholders of Valkyrie Nightclub, took to Twitter to express his dismay about the incident.

The comedian further explained his side in a separate interview.

“No-no sa akin yung ‘no cross dressing policy’. . . Katulad ko, cross dresser ako, pero ‘di nangangahulugan na ‘pag cross dresser ka, you don’t dress up appropriately. Magkaibang bagay kasi yun," Vice Ganda said.

In a statement, Valkyrie denied implementing a policy deemed discriminating to lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders.

It also apologized to Floresca and all cross dressers "if the denial of entry resulted in their embarrassment or made them feel disrespected in any way."

"It was never the intention of the Club to cause embarrassment or to disrespect any person,” Valkyrie said. (Ma. Monica Padillo, UST intern/Sunnex)
