Vidal ‘showing signs of improvement’

THOUGH still in a “semi comatose” state, Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal’s condition slightly improved after undergoing dialysis last Saturday, October 14.

Dr. Rene Josef Bullecer, who is privy to the 86-year-old prelate’s health condition, said the doctor’s recommended the dialysis to address his kidney problem, a result of his intake of medicines for many years now.

“At least, according to his cardiologist, the Cardinal’s heart and lungs are cooperating well despite the kidney problems. Again, he is under optimum watch and close monitoring in the intensive care unit,” he told Superbalita Cebu in an interview Sunday night, October 15.

Bullecer, a friend of Vidal’s, urged the people to continue praying for the prelate.

“He remains in a semi comatose state. He opens and closes his eyes spontaneously. Though he doesn’t reply to any voice command or hand grip, he starts to respond to specific body reflexes like responding to light or shows minor reaction to pain,” he said.

Vidal was taken to a private hospital in Cebu City last Wednesday dawn. His doctors said he suffered from sepsis due to pneumonia. (LRC)
