CANDIDATES for the 65th Miss Universe paid a courtesy call on President Rodrigo Duterte at Malacañan Palace on Monday, January 23.
In his speech, Duterte reminded the candidates from 86 countries in the world that the beauty pageant is an opportunity for them to make an impact.
"It is a chance for you to make an impact, inspire change, and even be the change that you wish to see in the world," the President said.
He also thanked the Miss Universe organization for letting the Philippines host the event, which Duterte said brings enormous pride and joy to the country and the Filipinos.
He said he is confident that the Filipino people will give each candidate "many precious memories to hold on."
"It is truly a great honor to be sharing you our most beautiful destinations, including the rich culture and history," he said.
