LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Village leaders of Lamtang have recommended a halt in garbage hauling activities undertaken by the Baguio City Government.
Kagawads Oscar Capdos, committee chair on health and sanitation and Oliver Aglano, the council’s chairman for peace and order said: “We recommend, the management of M.A. Camilo Freight Services to stop for the meantime their ongoing operation until a public consultation will be conducted to know the views and opinions of the residents of the community with the presence of concerned government agencies.”
During the regular council session Tuesday morning, the matter was referred to the committee on environment headed by Councilor Teddy Quintos.
A public consultation has also been scheduled on Friday, gathering officials as well as residents to get their consent.
Earlier, M.A. Camilo Freight Services rented the private lot of Martha Alberto in Lamtang to be used as a staging area for garbage from nearby Baguio City before it is hauled to Tarlac.
The company signed a memorandum of agreement with the lot owner but failed to submit neither for the barangay nor from the municipality.
The operations have been going on for weeks without the immediate knowledge of the officials.
Capdos and Aglano said the operations have been pointed out by residents meriting their investigation.
“This pertains to the requests of concerned citizens of the barangay to conduct inspection regarding the on-going operation of M.A. Camilo Freight Services located at Lamtang, Puguis,La Trinidad, Benguet at the property of Mrs. Martha Alberto,” the councilors said.
An ocular inspection was conducted on July 11 and noted six 6-wheeler dump trucks used for transporting the hauled garbage of Baguio City to Lamtang, Puguis, La Trinidad, and noted that after it reached the area it will be transferred to a 10-wheeler truck by two unit back-hoe stationed within the area.
It was also noted that employees in the area have been spraying deodorizer to avoid emanating odorous smell which will attract insects within the area and even nearby residences which is a health hazard to the community.
Capdos and Aglano said during the inspection, the application of the deodorizer was discussed so as with the operation of the back-hoe and the delivery scheme of the garbage trucks.
