Village official yields gun, drugs

A VILLAGE official is in hot water after he was caught in possession of unlicensed gun and prohibited drugs in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported.

Arrested was Wilmer Deles, 34, a village councilman of Lintugop, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, said Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Ariel Huesca.

Huesca said that Deles was arrested around 11:30 p.m. Friday along the highway in Barangay Anonang, Aurora by policemen manning a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint.

He said the policemen, while manning the checkpoint, intercepted a motorcycle with a temporary license plate driven by Rosmar Barredo, 31, with Deles as the back-rider.

Deles was found possessing a caliber .45 pistol without documents and with tampered serial numbers, as well as two small heat-sealed transparent sachets that contained white crystalline granules suspected to be shabu and 24 rolls of rolled aluminum foil.

The village official was detained at Aurora Police Station, while Barredo was placed under investigation, Huesca said.

Appropriate charges will be filed in court against the village official, Huesca added. (Bong Garcia)
