Villamonte, Singcang face-off in ‘Greg’ Open cagefest finals

BARANGAYS Villamonte and Singcang-Airport will start their campaign for the first Congressman Greg Gasataya Basketball championship on Friday, May 26, at the STI West Negros University gym in Bacolod City.

Both squads will begin their quest in the Best-of-3 finals after sweeping their respective rivals in two out of three games.

Villamonte outplayed Sum-ag as Singcang-Airport dominated Banago.

In the second match, Sum-ag booked an early 28-24 lead in the opening quarter with Luther Huevos’s 16 points, but Mark dela Cruz and Jeric Adorio fired 10 and 8 points, respectively, for Villamonte.

De la Cruz and Reymark Cadagat combined for 13 points to push Villamonte with just a basket behind, 46-48 at the break as Sum-ag slowed down on offense with Cris John Dayumat hitting eight points.

In the third, De la Cruz scored 11 points to anchor his team’s 26-20 run and give Villamonte the lead going to the playoff period, 72-68 as Jeffrey Manday hit eight points for Sum-ag.

De la Cruz paced Villamonte with a game-high 38 points as Jeric Adorio added 18 and Cadagat contributed 10.

The battle for third between Sum-ag and Banago is also set on Friday. (PR)
