Villar to attend flyover inauguration on December 19

BACOLOD City Representative Greg Gasataya said Tuesday, December 12, that Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar will visit the city on December 19 for the inauguration of the Araneta- Magsaysay flyover.

"I invited him to come over representing President Rodrigo Duterte," he said.

Gasataya earlier said the flyover could be passable on December 15 as committed by the DPWH and that the contractor should be slapped of penalties because of the delays in the project completion.

The Araneta-Magsaysay flyover has total project cost of P365 million which was converted into economic construction cost of P321.2 million, using the standard economic conversion factors. The DPWH allotted P32.008 million for civil works only.

Gasataya said the flyover is a necessary infrastructure that presents a structural solution to traffic congestion, and will lower road capacities brought about by an urbanizing metropolis.

He also said the project will serve incoming and outgoing traffic to and from the heart of the city to neighboring towns and urban centers, thus potentially lessening the travel time and costs of both the motorists and the public in general.

The Economic Internal Rate of Return of the project is 57.41 percent.

The flyover, which is the second for Bacolod City, is a double-lane pavement flyover with five spans of modular steel, four piers with a total length of 195 meters, and road approaches of 280 meters.
