Vinluan: Running injuries

AS MUCH as overuse syndrome or overtraining can make individual runners susceptible to injuries and illnesses, sudden changes in intensity, duration, or frequency of training should be avoided as these training habits are improper. Sudden changes in training habits are to be worked into slowly considering the basics of running as to speed and distance, proper running style etc. is to be observed to prevent stress and injury.

Every runner considering environmental factors should and must know that the role of a running shoes is vital, especially so that runners switch running areas from dirt to hard surfaces, trails etc. where stress and injury is susceptible. Treating yourself with a good pair of running shoes helps to protect the foot from the ground as well as support the foot structure and enables the body to move easily to running surfaces.

Commonly ignored by athletes and runners alike are minor injuries that may result to serious injuries and illnesses because relapses are common when you don’t take time for recovery. Athletes and or runners in such situations should give time to allow any injury or injuries to heal before engaging in training again.

Far more than being aware of injuries in training, individual athlete or no-athlete must learn to know all about the sport or exercise as well as the injuries and illnesses that may occur, first aid must also be at hand.

And to learn more, proper advice is very important, consult with sport-oriented, exercising medicine practitioners for preventive knowledge and be wary of non-sports and out-of-shape individuals who prefer inactivity and pills as cures.

Also be very skeptical of poorly trained trainers and instructors who believe in getting you into shape at any cost, the price might be your health. Ultimately, the most dangerous “expert” of all is your fellow runner or athlete. Try to know them well and know about their training and track records, because some may be given a few miles and a new warm-up suit and suddenly they are experts in the field. Remember, “a little learning is dangerous” as they say.

Prevention of injuries is the best thing one should know, and to better understand seek advice about running and sports injuries from running/sport-oriented physicians, competent and cautious physical educators and physical therapists, and veteran, level headed runners and athletes. Finally, remain skeptical.

And to be able to know yourself as a runner or athlete, learn more about yourself as a runner who first get up and battle the “disease of inactivity” and then the “diseases of excellence.”
