Vinta victims get financial aid

FOUR barangays affected by flooding brought by Storm Vinta were given financial assistance by the City Government on Monday, January 8.

Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte personally distributed food and financial assistance to the victims in barangays Gumalang, Lacson, Dacudao, and Pangyan.

Recipients of the aid received between P3,000 to P10,000 — depending on the extent of damages.

The Davao City Social Services and Development Office has listed 22,911 families affected by the flood brought by “Vinta.”

On Tuesday, Duterte will also visit other villages severely affected by the December flood that prompted the local government to declare a state of calamity.

The flood has left over P80 million in damages in infrastructure and agriculture in Davao City, officials said.

On Monday, the Mayor also spoke with students of the said affected barangays, encouraging them to do good in their studies.

Education, she said, is the key to ensure a better future for them and their children. (with reports from CIO)
