TO INCREASE students’ awareness on wanted criminals in Cebu City, the Cebu City Police Office conducted another information drive in the different schools in the city, handing out bookmarks to students.
Insp. Enrique Belcina of the Police Community Relations Offfice of the CCPO said their campaign proved to be effective in arresting wanted criminals.
A month ago, the CCPO posted tarpaulins and fliers of wanted criminals in malls and other establishments. One on the wanted list was apprehended.
Belcina said their target is to inform the public about these criminals.
He explained that, usually, the public doesn’t know about the wanted criminals in the city.
“Wala ta kahibaw, kaila ra diay ni nila ang naa sa mga wanted list. At least ma-aware sila (They might happen to know those in the wanted list),” added Belcina.
Early this year, the CCPO visited bus terminals and handed out folding fans with pictures and names of persons on the Cebu City wanted list.
They also placed the police stations’ contact numbers in case the community knows information about those on the wanted list.
He advised the public not to hesitate reporting to the police if they spotted suspects included in the wanted list they posted.
Belciña, in an interview, said they are confident and believe that this is one way of getting public’s cooperation in neutralizing wanted persons
In January, the ninth of the top ten most wanted list was arrested by the City Intelligence Branch.
Elmer Abella Sr., 50, was reportedly in hiding for almost 16 years for allegedly raping his daughter in 1998. He had a bounty of P150,000 for his arrest. (JTR)
