MALAGOS Garden Resort had a unique way of celebrating the Halloween.
Want to know why?
Last October 29, they presented the “Mga Handuraw sa Baul” that featured Philippine music, arts, films and other horror-related activities.
They also highlighted local short films made by local film makers from the island.
“Basically when we say baul, yun yung lalagyan natin ng mga gamit before ng mga ninuno natin, so we come up with something na will showcase the Philippine folklore while celebrating Halloween. At the same time, be a platform for local artists and talents,” says Rhea Pañares, Malagos Garden Resort marketing coordinator in an interview.
The event became a venue for local artists to showcase their artistry, skills and talents based on the different activities that had been mounted for the whole day.
The “Mga Handuraw sa Baul” features pumpkin carving, costume party, photo contest, art talk, live painting, live poetry reading, local bands and horror movies.
“Isa kasi sa advocacy ng Malagos, aside from giving entertainment, is to become a home of local talents,” Pañares added.
The event also includes the annual “Ngilngig” Film Festival where few short films were shown during the event.
Screams from the crowd filled the Malagos Moonlight Theatre as “Ngilngig” films entitled “OT” by Chris Duco, “Pakbet” by Xana Patal, “Madonna” (Earl Autida), “Happy Fiesta” (Joe Bacus), “Patentero” (Ferdinand Mesias), “Achup Boulevard” (Bem Di Lera), “The Camera” (Bagane Fiola), “Garbage Bag” (Bagane Fiola), “Turog” (Earl Usi) and “Sanctissima” (Kenneth Dagatan) were flashed on screen.
Few local artists also grace the event including Davao’s talents Anne Mendoza, Chud Festejo, Kevin Becira and Manila-based beatmaker CRWN, together with hip-hop patriot, Curtismith.
Added attraction as well is their Horror House that has an “abandoned hospital” as the concept.
The horror house was designed by a team of eight architects from C. Puentespina Design and Architects (CPDA).
“Bale we designed the interior and we used all recycled materials that we found in the resort. Tulong-tulong kaming walo. We choose hospital kasi diba dun yung maraming creepy experiences," says Charisse Puentespina, Malagos Garden Resort managing director, who is also an interior designer of CPDA.
On the other hand, renovations are done within the 12-hectare nature-themed park.
Pañares shared that they want to put up new things that will surely make their visitors’ trip to the place a memorable one.
