Where the sun rises first

IT IS acknowledged as the easternmost tip of the Philippines, and thus at the turn of the century, reporters hide off to what was then a faraway barangay barely reached by a paved road to witness the first sunrise of the 21st century.

They were to be disappointed because it was one cloudy day. That was 15 years ago, and now Pusan Point in Caraga, Davao Oriental comes complete with concrete roads and a viewing deck, park, and what looks like a tourism center are now taking shape.

The provincial government of Davao Oriental is in the thick of making parks and learning centers for the various natural attractions it has.

The Mt. Hamiguitan Tourist Complex is on its last stages of construction, several parks have already been put up including those in Cateel, Boston, and even Aliwagwag Falls.

In Caraga, they have Pusan Point. When everything is done, there will be more reason to visit the province that was once known as the Contra Costa of the undivided Davao province.
