JOB Wi, Joyce Reboton, Bern Llanes and Isabell Wolfe shared top honors at the close of the first National CrossFit Competition dubbed as “Tempra's Battle of the Strongest” on Sunday, May 28, at the Matina Town Square in Davao City.
Wi of the Central Ground CrossFit Manila (CFMNL) showed superb strength, earning six points to annex the men's RX title over 15 rivals. He completed the four-set workout including Furn Up, Trouball, 3 Hang Squat Clean Deadz and Isabel Went to Davao prepared by CrossFit Madayaw.
Wi bested Rocky Dorjsembe of the Southside Fitness Cebu, who scored nine points to place second and 10-pointer CrossFit Cranium's Nicho Mauricio, who placed third in the event presented by the Visit Davao Fun Sale in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) Davao Region.
In the distaff side, Reboton also made six points after four workouts to secure the women's RX crown over Jane Tendencia of Livefit Iloilo who got eight points for the runner-up honors and Michelle Del Rosario of CFMNL Quezon Avenue, placed third with 11.
Llanes of CFMNL Quezon Avenue, for his part, ruled the men's scaled division with eight points, outclassing Michael Kevin So of CrossFit Cagayan (19 points) and Neon Pagilagan of Solid Grip CFMNL (22 points), who wounded up in the next two spots.
Wolfe of Central Ground CrossFit Manila, who registered five points, claimed the women's scaled title over next two placers Sam Ty of CFMNL Eastwood (14 points) and Ian Banzon of Alpha Strength (20 points).
CrossFit Madayaw president Earvin Joshua Go, in a Facebook chat with SunStar Davao, is elated by the success of the event despite the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao.
"I believe the event turned out well. We will definitely come back next year bigger and better," Go who is also inviting everyone for a free trial on any of their CrossFit or Bootcamp services at CrossFitMadayaw along McArthur Highway in Matina.
The event was also supported by the city government of Davao, AirAsia, Bonamine, BPI Cards, Tanduay, Cebu Pacific and Happy Fit.
